Singapore Expat Blogs: Helpful or Hellish

Lately I have been reading Singapore Expat blogs in order to get a better idea of what to expect when I get there. There are A TON out there and are chock full of great information and tips, but with all the great pros comes the blogger’s cons of living in Singapore. Most of the time when I read the posts, the cons aren’t anything that frighten me or give me anxiety about moving to Singapore, but they definitely remind me that this isn’t going to be another one of our Great Gach Getaways, but a serious mind-blowing move.

Some of my favorite blogs so far are:

So far, this is what I am mentally preparing myself for:

  • The heat – I am actually looking forward to the heat being the fact that I am Puerto Rican and anything under 90 degrees is “chilly” and I prefer to work out in a room that is heated to 100 degrees and 70% humidity.
  • Shopping….for ANYTHING – Most of you who know where I live in Austin that everything I need to live is literally in a 2 mile radius from my home. Sephora, Ulta, HEB, Old Navy, Whole Foods, it’s  all there. I am both excited and terrified to go food shopping in Singapore once the opportunity rolls around, but the blogs are definitely helping out with easing the stress.

I am sure more worries will roll around, but so far the blogs mostly get me really excited to eat in Singapore. Can’t wait to try those Asian feasts!

  1. Thanks for the link back to my blog. I’m glad you’ve found it useful and hope everything goes well for you over the next few months leading up to your move to Singapore. Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions. Best of luck!

  2. Thanks for the link! Good luck with you move and do reach out to the bloggers when you get to town. We have moved now but others in the online are around!

  3. Thank you for the links, we’re moving too and are trying to find out as much as possible. I didn’t find the forums helpful at all, so we moved over to blogs to get our information. We’ve started one too, but it’s going to be an easier way to do ’round robin’ letters to all of our family. Thanks again for the links, we’ve lots of reading to do!
